Picture 50km of trail running heaven, and you’ll have a pretty good idea of what’s in store for the Kosci50. Kicking things off at the Bullocks Flat Ski Tube Terminal, it won't take long before you hit the good stuff - single-track.
The sound of trickling water will accompany you along the next parts of the route as you follow the Thredbo River along the Thredbo Valley Trail, making your way deeper into the mountains towards the Thredbo Ski Village. You’ll wind your way beneath chairlifts and amongst ski routes, ascending the mountain before flying down flowy MTB single track – the stuff dreams are made of…
With around 1800m of climbing the Kosci50 isn’t a grunt, but a nice mix of up and downhill on runnable trails that make the most of the views, the alpine air and the happy trails. Perfect for first-time ultra-runners or those looking for a great “experience to KM” ratio.
*Maps subject to change, and may changes for reasons outside of the Race Organisers control. Select the Time Charts tabs to view the cut-off times for leaving the relevant checkpoint. Time Charts show estimated fastest and slowest times for each race leg and should be used as a guide only. Where the slowest times are greater than the cut-off time, the cut-off time will supersed the sloest expected estimates. If you miss the cut-off then you must follow the directions of officials. Please note that in bad weather conditions, cut-offs may need to be brought forward during the event.
KEY INFO FOR UTA50 RUNNERS
All the information you need to know before starting an extraordinary adventure.
The Kosci50 has 3 checkpoints along its route, with differing levels of service and supplies. The Kosci50 checkpoints offer you the opportunity to refuel, rehydrate, see your spectators and prepare for the next leg of your journey!
Read more about checkpoints
A drop bag service will be available which allows you to have your own personal supplies (gels, food, change of socks, shoes, shorts, lubricant, etc.) available at the finish.
Read the rules on drop bags
Every runner at Kosci will have to carry mandatory gear. The mandatory gear list contains what we believe is the absolute minimum to keep you safe during the event and in the Snowy Mountain’s unpredictable weather systems.

TRAINING ON COURSE
The Kosci50 course is publically accessible throughout the year, offering the opportunity to train on course prior to raceday. However note that many sections are covered in snow in the colder months.
Please take care and give way to members of the general public when training on course.

The Kosci50 will start in 3 waves 5 minutes apart. These waves are self-seeded on race morning.
- Wave 1 - expected finish time between 3:30 and 6:45
- Wave 2 - expected finish time between 6:45 and 8:30
- Wave 3 - expected finish time between 8:30 and 13:30
Please join the wave that best fits you, and follow signage and direction of staff on race morning.
We encourage spectators to get out on course and support their runners!
Spectators can see runners at many points along the Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko by UTMB courses. We ask that you please respect private landowners and do not cross any private property. If spectating on course, please respect runners and support crews and do your best to spectate in a supportive, safe manner. Any on course spectating (including at checkpoints) can only be moral support – no material or physical supporting is allowed for the Kosci50.
We ask spectators at Ngarigo Campground when supporting your Kosci50 runners - due to very limited parking at this location, please park responsibly and do not impede traffic or runners. We encourage you to support your runners at the start line, in and around the trails near Bullocks Flat Ski Tube Terminal, and at Eagles Nest Checkpoint.
